It was the August of 1947.
A new beginning - a new heaven.
Efforts & bloodshed paid off and some.
It was time to embrace new found freedom.
Brighter, happy faces taking over the glum.
Years it had been over a hundred.
Horror, famine, miserable lives lead.
Valiant fight, many lives shed.
Not deterred , countless bled.
Events that are forever etched in history.
Citizens so brave, their courage remains a mystery.
Great men & women stood up for their rights.
On a new goal, they'd set their sights.
It was a radical change that was needed.
To be won for and not pleaded.
No more could be borne plight.
The injustice had to be set right.
With bravery, courage at its height.
They made way for a new light.
Birth of a free INDIA they did envision.
A country growing with each rising sun.
Where forever and on, progress was on the run.
First step of freedom achieved - it had begun.
Achieving the dreams- by every future Indian it had to be done.
In its true sense, sons of the soil.
Gave us a land, free of sorrow & turmoil.
We must fulfill their every dream.
No matter how distant it may seem.
We owe it to them- our every beam .
A land of deserts, plains and mountains.
Of seas & springs, forests & fountains.
The calm of the Himalayan ice-capped peaks.
The cheerfulness when in a hundred languages, an Indian speaks.
Of diversity, of culture & tradition, every street reeks.
From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from the tip to the top.
Our fields, our rivers, our spice, our rice, our crop.
God's countless blessings , every moment that drop.
Temples, dances, food, rituals, marriage - our culture.
History, architecture, music, caves and sculpture.
Guidelines for a democratic State - our Constitution.
Villages, towns, cities, museum, educational institution.
Of its praise, grandeur , one can never tire.
Our Motherland, our nation, our Empire.
To see it on top, is every Indian's desire.
It's to begin with just that spark of fire.
To this land of pristine beauty,
Every & each citizen has his duty.
