He saw her smiling from afar.
Just like a distant, twinkling star.
She walked closer, he couldn’t be longer deceived.
All’s not well – the message was received.
Her eyes gave it away- scarred and red.
She was breaking inside, though it looked a stable head.
He could sense it, he could see through the lies.
He looked past that painted smile, past that disguise.
There was a shattered soul within – he heard its cries.
Behind the curtain of illusion, he saw teardrops in her eyes.
She chirped happily as she spoke.
Inside, bits crumbled away and broke.
He was done with her cruel joke.
Looked her straight in the eye, “Walk with me.” He said.
She was tormented. She was afraid. She shook her head.
He reminded her that he hadn’t given a choice.
“Trust me, all your troubles you can voice.”
While she was hesitant at first.
Into an unquenched babble she burst.
She spoke of odds and ends.
Family, lovers and Friends.
She harped knowingly about failure and success.
The reasons for unhappiness and those for bliss.
In this bustling world, she felt all alone.
No one to comfort when she was forlorn.
It was as if, she never did belong.
Her being here was all only wrong.
She knew that she was falling apart.
Every action was a curse ~ she knew from the start.
Of this life’s legacy, she wasn’t meant to be part.
Withered, scalded, devoid was her Stoic heart.
She couldn’t figure her fatal fault.
The one that had garnered this despondent vault.
What ever could have been the cause of fright
Her innocence, her philanthropy, her quest for the right?
She wanted answers, there were too many gaps.
There was place for her, in a universe beyond, perhaps.
To tell her that she was loved, there was no one.
Her existence was pure dark, long gone was her sun.
As she struggled, inner demons she fought.
There was another train of thought.
There was so much wrong in the world.
Yet, around herself, her mind was twirled.
This shutting out the malevolent, pleading din.
She wondered, felt, countered, it was a sin.
She was somehow convinced that it was so unfair.
Overlooking the surrounding misery, about herself to care.
However could she even think of self-love or wanting some.
When a million others tried to drown sorrows in gallons of rum.
Her very existence felt surreal, decided and undecided.
All the global troubles~ the weight of which on her shoulders resided.
Every other person seemed to appear, be sent.
For the sole reason to tear, maim and torment.
Perhaps, the negative killed all the good.
He gawked awkwardly, saying that he understood.
He assured her that troubles, bad, would dissolve.
It was time to probably preach a new resolve.
He promised, of love, joy & positivity a share.
Made-believe that he was one to care.
She mellowed, however, a little reluctant, still, a little stiff.
They walked on, closer to the edge of the cliff.
She’d dropped her guard, given up her shield.
Into his trap, to his machiavellian scheme, did yield.
Even before she could react, any meaning concur.
Grabbing her by the arm, the waist, he kissed her.
She felt shock, joy, horror, disbelief & disdain.
A line of trust he had gallantly slain.
It soon felt right to her, though he wasn’t a friend.
But nothing could unnerve, nothing could alter how it was to end.
Making known to him, more than just body and soul.
His job was done, he’d never had the ‘hero’ role.
He grinned. Though confused, indifferent, she did smile.
Yet, the inevitable, the planned, the deed ~ after just a little while.
She hadn’t let anything get to her head.
Perhaps for he never meant any he’d said.
Down in the ravine below, cast open to nature, her exposed body & bare soul lay.
He shed just a single tear, threw it down to lie beside her & went his selfish, meaningless way.

:D
She knew it, for she saw the earnestness in his eyes.
It was candid, real; there was no scope for any lies.
She had held it in mind, all along.
Clasped in hers, his hands did belong.
Her hands ruffling his curly brown hair.
Her grace , his style, his commanding flair.
His strong arms wrapped around her waist.
All at ease, calm, slow, no worry, no haste.
Around him, all her emotions were twirled.
His mesmerizing charm, he was her world.
He knew her so well, understood her every whim.
And for a long while, the reason of her every smile was him.
Through ups and downs, he was always there.
Just the thought of losing him was a scare.
With him, she had planned out her whole life story.
Fantasies of love, castles, & flowers- in full glowing glory.
He knew he could never love another.
She admitted he was like no other.
He’d established that he couldn’t be with anyone else.
It was thus decided, June would hear wedding bells.
Even the honeymoon was planned – all good to go !
And two first class tickets to sunny Mexico !
A wedding cake chosen, a tux hired.
Invites sent, colourful lights wired.
The family pastor to call vows they did select.
A dream wedding – all planned & perfect.
All overboard with fantasy, whims losing all reason.
Roses, pink carnations & all white flowers in season.
The bridesmaids’ dresses & her wedding gown.
A fairytale ceremony – ‘twas talk of the town.
A fancy evening along the Pacific shore.
Elaborate grandiose & excitement galore.
He was the only one who did matter.
Sleepless nights-over the phone – endless patter.
Merry rejoicing – happiness at its pinnacle.
Finding each other wasn’t short of a miracle.
A bond – soon to be cemented forever- cast forth in glee.
All knew that he- & - her were just meant to be.
It was D-Day- A full house waiting to witness.
A pronunciation of what was to be eternal bliss.
Till date, no one knoes what did happen, what did falter.
After their decade long play, he left her waiting at the altar.
